How to Change PowerPoint Presentations to Word Documents – You cannot change a PowerPoint (PPt) document to a Word document. PowerPoint documents are slide based files intended for projection while Word documents present the text intended for printing.
However, PowerPoint can support the utility of creating handouts that export slides of your PowerPoint presentations and notes into a format that is accommodated by Word. Even better, any changes you make in Word can flow back to PowerPoint.
Note: The information in this article applies to PowerPoint 2019, 2016, and PowerPoint for Office 365. However, PowerPoint has supported the export to handouts feature in several modes since at least Word 2010.
How to Export PowerPoint Content as a Word Handout
Send the PowerPoint outline, and notes into Word in just a few steps:
- Click File> Export to display the Export window.

- Select the Create Handout option from the list.

- In the Send to Microsoft Word dialog box, select the page layout of your choice, then (at the bottom of the box) choose whether you want to paste the slide into Word, which will make a copy, or paste the link, which will bind back to PowerPoint.

Tip: Pasting the link means that any changes you make in Word will reflect back in PowerPoint. However, you must have access to a PowerPoint document when you edit a Word document, otherwise you cannot access the slide link.

- Click OK.
- Word opens with the exported document.

Another way to send a paper copy of your presentation is to cut Word altogether. Simply print your slideshow to PDF. The Save as Adobe PDF in PowerPoint exports a full-color version of each slide on one PDF page, with speaker notes entered as annotations on the relevant slides.
